D. Batsaikhan, the general director of "Oyuunlag" School of General Education, is respected as the best teacher of mathematics in the field of education, and his passion for children is reflected in everything he does.  

We present a few moments of conversation with him about the latest trends in education and the work he is doing for reform.

- Recently, on "Bloomberg TV Mongolia " channel, there was an interesting program about Oyuunlag Middle School, and seeing that it was received by many people in the social environment, I got the impression that there would be more such schools striving for reforms. And when I talk to you, I often say "our guys are our team".

-That's right. What can I do alone? But if we do it together, the solution and the productivity are high. On the other hand, it is often said that the younger generation used to do this in our time, but today's youth cannot do that. I don't agree with that. On the other hand, there is no need to argue with anyone when there is still the established fact of human life that the next generation is necessarily better than the previous generation. That's why our school has a dynamic team of young academics, intellectuals, eager to achieve and capable. This is the main point of departure for the intellectual school and the reformation. The most important factor is to tie them with policies and provide them with the opportunity to work, support them, and guide them. First of all, our team focused on the direction and level of development of international education and how we can learn from it and develop together. For example, the European Union, Australia, Singapore, the United States, Korea, and China, which determines the color of world-class education, are studying the recommendations, directions, programs, and experiences of some of the associations' memberships. This is a real intellectual and methodological investment for us.

- Specifically, please introduce what policies you are implementing in the field of reform to improve educational services, quality, and accessibility?

Today, we see at every step how intelligent use of technology based on digital information is becoming a common use in our daily life. Advances in technology have already created a list of many factors that need to be changed, such as viewpoints, executive functions and learning approaches, content and methods at any level of education.

For this reason, for the school, first of all, the basic software, internal network, data server, and the creation of a smart electronic solution environment for each classroom have been given importance. " O yunlag school innovation " project is running successfully for the third year.

In general, any problem should be approached from the point of view of the whole system in the sense that one affects the other syndromically. We are trying to maintain this trend. In this sense, the "Singapore education innovation" project has been implemented for 4 years to bring the teaching of mathematics, physics, chemistry and geography to the international standard level. As part of the social studies course, a total of 8 projects, including the "OBST" project, the "5C" comprehensive program to improve work productivity, and the "Research student" study of the natural data of each student, are being implemented with our own funds.

- What do you conclude that there is a need to reform school education services?

- In the sense of providing educational services for children who will live and work in the era of information technology development, by continuing to provide services with the 18th century educational system organization, 19th century teaching content, programs, and research, and 20th century evaluation and methods. can't. They have different natural abilities and demands to live in the new era of future development. This is the generation that wants any learning content to be applied based on elementalization, integration, pragmatic and dynamic features. On the other hand, we provide educational services to the "Z-zet" and "Alpha" generation, where the use of technology is commonplace. That is why, whether we like it or not, we are obliged to accept the demands of the time and provide them with the conditions for learning. We understand that this is how we should start this transformation from ourselves. Also, I would like to emphasize that we have nothing to lose by following the standards of educationally developed countries in terms of educational policies, content, methods, environment, and attitudes.

- So , what is the attitude of Mongolian universities, research institutes and research centers regarding STEAM training, which can be said to be the latest educational achievement?

- In this field, there is little understanding in the field of education in Mongolia, and educational research institutes attached to Universities and Higher Education Institutions have not opened financial and qualified personnel opportunities to conduct any research in this field. Therefore, if the above-mentioned institutions do not expand and renew their traditional research areas, the picture is that they are becoming followers of their time, not ahead of their time. They have the status of learners, not helpers in shaping education policy. This is the most disturbing problem, so special investment policy is needed first. However, we cannot change our views, and we are increasingly facing a strange system that has added and removed old content, increased the number of subjects, and taken on social and family duties that are not related to school services.

- What is the legal possibility for your school to include STEAM training in its curriculum?

- Currently, it is not possible to officially conduct courses in this regard in the curriculum and legal documents in force at the state level. This teaching technology is young, has not yet been studied at a high level, and there is a lack of specially trained personnel. However, international colleagues are guides, mentors and colleagues every step of the way. Today, we need to understand that we are living in a new era of information technology, where the world has become flat and globalized and borders have disappeared. Sometimes pressure from professional and regulatory bodies and threats with meaningless regulations are just a part of life. Being a private school, we have the advantage that we can plan and define the direction of our school's educational policy. Only the opinion and experience of Mongolia and the Khonkhor will not go far. We continue to work hard because we believe that striving for success by learning from experience in line with international trends will have a positive effect on meeting future demands.

- Can it be understood that the curriculum of the intellectual school follows international trends 100 percent?

- I'm sorry, don't say 100 percent too much. I could not fully understand everything in this short time. Since Oyuunlag School is a private secondary school in Mongolia, it is responsible for studying the curriculum standards of this country. On the other hand, there is an opportunity to learn from global trends when perfecting the curriculum. We also understand that we can keep pace with modern times by supporting with advanced technology. That's why it is clear that we will not go far with a train whose policies are always changing, whose contents are unstable, and whose implementation mechanisms are poor.

This is what the education sector looks like today. In order to step away from this kind of situation and move forward, as a result of the work of research institutions, appropriate recommendations have been tested in life and are being used in school practice. We are striving to introduce such a qualified structure into the training. When you start doing something new, there are too many critics and there are too many intellectuals who look for reasons why something won't work. It's no secret that such a color is prevalent in our society. It is true that the wise open opportunities, the wise take advantage of opportunities, the good wait for opportunities, and the average miss opportunities.

-That's right. On the other hand, the contents and methods of school education, and the direction of students' learning are changing and changing according to the development of STEAM education. What do you think about this?

- The knowledge that was in the past is very different from the current knowledge system. In other words, the rigid boundaries of many scientific fields tend to blur more and more with the passage of time. It is determined by the nature of the intersection of their studies. Australia and Korea have begun to conduct high-level research and experiments to create a small number of courses, not many types of courses. A clear example of it is the course called STEAM. It is not a frozen knowledge that can not be used by an ultra-theory, but a connection and connection between interdisciplinary knowledges, and real understanding and knowledge are created due to reason.

Mathematical calculations are measured by statistics. In the process of creating, one learns the harmony of engineering work. It can be understood as training to create a real work through colors, images, and imagination. In the course of this comprehensive work, beneficial and necessary knowledge will be given, and the ability to study, plan, and create will be formed. This is what I understand as the value of knowledge and the nature of learning now and in the future. The main expression of this concept can be said to be STEAM training.

- Which country do you choose to use for your STEAM training materials?

- Starting from 2017, after setting many requirements, such as comprehensive teaching materials, technology, basic concepts of physics, electronics, coding, and programming issues, etc. We are using the center's 1st-12th grade complete materials, programs, and methodical materials for training.

It also expanded its base with 10 types of Fisher tehk from Germany and coding robot training materials from Australia. In the future, I plan to invest in I -STEAM and STREAM training to have a comprehensive program and textbooks for my school.

- It was mentioned that there are other approaches and developments other than "STEAM". Please clarify this?

- In international secondary schools, in the 1970s, inter-subject connections, in the 1980s, professional orientation, in the 1990s, the content of physics, chemistry, and geography courses were combined under the name of Natural Science, in the 2000s, STEM or science, It has been viewed as a unified study of technology, engineering, and mathematics. But today, countries with advanced education are critical of this concept, and since 2010s, STEAM or A has been added, adding the tone of art, design, cartography, and modeling to become a perfect work with engineering solutions.

Now, Canada and England are experimenting with STREAM or R in the sense of theoretical contents to be studied, reading and studying knowledge, and guaranteed explanatory speech.

Israel has started testing the reform program by adding additional functions to I-STEAM, i.e. innovation, change, and innovation. They have built many training centers and have the following main directions in their education policy. It is difficult to train people who do not feel the need. It is easy to teach them the necessary things that created the need. I define the technology as the vital requirement of the didactics of training. It is only when there is a problem to be solved that one begins to think and think about the way to do it. This is how developed countries have started to properly define the nature and meaning of their future education and implement national programs with development trends.

- Will the "STEAM" course be limited to the basic concepts of physics, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics?

- The main idea of this course is to provide the basic knowledge and attitude of chemistry-physics, biology, engineering and information technology in this field to children who want to become doctors in secondary school. In other words, an engineer can be understood as a training course with different structures and a complex approach, depending on the field of engineering, engineering, engineering, water supply, geology, etc. However, today, the content and methodology of the training, which has been narrowed and perfected in this way, has not been fully developed. This is the very near future of education. Space technology, energy and environmental technology, information technology, cyber technology, and nanotechnology, which are being studied by mankind today, will be reflected in the content of high schools and universities at an increasingly higher level. This is the way of development.

- What is the importance of educational benefits for students about this course?

- Before, I mostly spoke from the perspective of knowledge and understanding. However, from the point of view of educational factors that affect children, it is recommended that the content of the educational approach should be given priority in the main concepts of STEAM-oriented education, such as being suitable for human use, being friendly, not harming nature and ecology, and supporting lively relationships through joint creative activities. For this reason, research organizations warn that it is necessary to emphasize that the attitude of using knowledge correctly should be emphasized during training. On the other hand, since the course itself is based on PROJECTS, there is a lot of opportunity to approach the work with specific goals.

I am learning to plan, execute, evaluate my work, recognize my own position and understand others. It helps them to express their ideas freely and open up. It helps them to support their sense of art by connecting what they do with art and design, looking at the appearance, purpose, and safety.

It supports creative abilities such as the consequences of changing some things in the process of creation. Therefore, many factors can be mentioned such as statistics, mathematical ability to analyze, and knowledge of software to truly understand interdisciplinary knowledge. Through the above-mentioned activities, we are creating many good qualities of education and maturity in each child.

- It was mentioned that the knowledge acquired in secondary school subjects such as mathematics, informatics, chemistry, and physics has a great impact on children by supporting STEAM training. I am interested in your school's policy on informatics training. If it's not a secret, can you introduce it?

- It's not a secret. STEAM training is considered to be the basic concept of informatics education. This is one of the reasons why the benefits of education deteriorate due to not creating a fertile soil. One of the main themes of STEAM education is the fundamentals of coding. By learning to write code, it is important for children to think clearly, solve problems step by step, and develop a creative mind. So, there is a need to systematically prepare students for coding. The main goal of the informatics course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of information technology and algorithm programming. Therefore, in the 1st to 3rd grades, learn the basic knowledge of robot programming by building blocks on the game materials and learn algorithm structure and notation. After that, the basic concept of the algorithm will be fully mastered through the help of the game application card, the notation, type, and design of the algorithm.

In the 4th-5th grade STEAM course, you will code the action of the robot model of the class to create graphics and block actions using the application on your tablet. This method is decoded in the coding ladder language and learns basic coding techniques from the algorithm

In 6th grade, students will learn to build their own interactive stories, fun video games, and animations using Scratch programming, extending their STEAM and prior coding knowledge.

In the 7th grade, you will learn many techniques, such as finding the most optimal way to solve a problem with the fewest actions, coding the algorithm with a complex structure and time-consuming basic content, such as block diagram of the algorithm, decoding and reading the code, finding errors in the coding, writing code on the computer, etc.

From the 8th grade, our children study SI language, which is the main programming language, and then study the dynamic features of object access, web technology, its text, form design, color design, database, and so on. Also, more than 10 children are studying the CISCO official course for electronic network and programming language education for the 3rd year. It seems appropriate to conduct the training in such a structured, continuous manner, without lagging behind the international approach.

- Will you manage to study this much? What is the opportunity for a person like me who was not good at numbers to study with interest?

- Of course. The curriculum methodology is clear, and children from other countries have studied it, why not ours? If you count the reasons why something cannot be done, nothing will be done. The reason for this is that we have seen the results of international experiments, tests, and training courses, and we have not aspired to such a possibility.

The possibility of acquiring any future career without basic knowledge of information technology, electronics, and programming is shrinking more and more. Many types of jobs are disappearing. The tide and scope of this development is intensifying. You can't be easy today with the complacency that cows are easy until the ax is used. If knowledge is meaningful, has data from all sides, is useful, and is used, then knowledge is valuable, and this is the nature of learning now and in the future.

- You emphasize that knowledge is important, but today, because the learning ability and attitude of children are important, the situation of lowering the level of theory is often observed in education. Is this correct?

- Of course it's wrong. Knowledge is the most valuable thing, and on the other hand, tools are the main tools for the development of intelligence, because there is no possibility of acquiring knowledge without content. Knowledge cannot be effectively applied without the coordination and pragmatic application of researches in each field. Without repeated repetitions, there is no chance of mastering the skill. That is why knowledge is at the center of learning. In the process of acquiring knowledge, understanding is created, and then, it is a natural system that helps to create good habits and attitudes. So, this is how we should approach the education policy comprehensively.

Currently, only STEAM training fully expresses this complex meaning. That's why education is a science with specific goals, content, unique technology, and management.

- I felt that if every school director, like you, knows every subject like the back of his hand and supports his young teachers by determining their future attitudes, I would worry less about the quality of education and service.

- For me, it's a little bit older assessment. I am an ordinary teacher who learns from young people and follows their opinions and dreams.

- There are many problems that need to be changed and reformed in the field of education. What kind of problems do you want to be solved?

- If you count, there are many problems. However, I would like to name only two issues that need to be considered today and tomorrow. The first is the teacher's salary and social security. This is the basic foundation. If the salary is high, the demand for teaching staff will increase and there will be competition for quality teachers in this profession. In the midst of competition, the benefits of training will increase. The quality and availability of education, the reputation and value of teachers will increase, and the current image of the society that views education will begin to rise to a higher level. In this way, education can be the guarantee of a strong country's independence. Without such a logic in our government policy, how can we raise the requirements of teachers and issue any laws and regulations?

When the teacher's ability data and potential evaluation are like this, it will take a lot of time and money to improve the quality of education. It is clear that solving the above-mentioned problems by picking two or three problems without considering the basic concepts will not lead to good results. That is why the teacher's salary is the basis of the problem of social welfare.

The next issue is to increase the equality and availability of the Internet in every school, and it is also very necessary to eliminate the tariffs. There is a need to develop and follow legal regulations to create a culture of electronic consumption. It is important to fully equip every school with online technology and teaching materials. What can a man without tools and without a job do but talk nonsense? It is clear that empty dreams and delusions will not go far. There are various documents such as educational concepts, new laws, new standards. Isn't all this the same as asking a person without tools to do work? Therefore, we cannot be behind the times. Today, Singapore has been able to create the above-mentioned basic data in the education sector, so it has started implementing the "Digital Readiness Blueprint" policy at all levels of society. Our Ministry of Policy should pay attention to this.
